The Concept

We started with the concept of a bulk food store which exists already (there are very few bulk stores in the US) but we needed to evolve the concept to have a real point of difference. BD Provisions has hundreds of foods available in bulk that you take home in sustainable containers (some that you can bring from home)! The store has everything you can imagine in bulk from rice, pasta, chocolate, flour plus artisanal olive oils & vinegars and local honey on tap. And if that didn’t make our store special enough- we added a coffee roaster right in the front of our store so you can take your coffee beans home so fresh, you can sometimes get them warm right out of the roaster.

When we first decided to move foward with our concept, there was no time to waste! I loved that we were a small team, making all of the rules and I loved that my scrappy self was allowed to run wild! We had no time or money to overthink anything, so this was the perfect opportunity for me to lean on my intuition and jump into the minds of potential consumers to craft the perfect concept and real-life store. My marketing vision for the store was a “Modern Day General Store”, and “What’s Old is New Again”, bringing the concept of a bulk store or penny candy store into the modern day.

Starting BD Provisions has been one of the most rewarding projects of my career and puts me in the unique position of being a Marketing Consultant that has been classicly trained at some of the best brands in the world, but I also understand the perspective of my small business clients as I am a small business client myself! I have also had the pleasure of being interviewed on tv, for multiple magazines and news articles and was even a featured speaker at the 2019 International Retail Design Conference! Brand Strategy
For the branding, we chose a modern vintage logo that was clean and harkened back to the idea of the modern day general store. The brand voice as well as fonts for the brand were chosen to be straightforward and professional, not fanciful or distracting. The brand colors were clean and sophisticated and I designed the stores in the same color to maintain 360 degree aesthetics.

Imagery was eye-catching in an everyday upscale luxury vibe. We utilized images of products in bulk in glass containers to tie to the brand concept.

Web Design
The website for BD Provisions is the largest web design project I have ever worked on. Not only did I need to convey the concept of the store, I had to explain how to shop at our store, include pages for each franchisee that have to be maintained and also feature an ecommerce store.

The challenge with a bulk food store is that there is no packaging so there is nowhere for customers to have easy access to recipes and instructions. I created hundreds of QR codes that link to hundreds of recipes on the site so that customers can enjoy our products.

Social Media
Social media remains one of the key marketing tools to reach and engage with our customers. We started with a Facebook page where we fostered a sense of community, shared recipes, new product offerings and so much more. We soon added Instagram and as we expanded by bringing on franchisees, I had to set up a Parent/Child structure so that information from the franchise page would flow down to the franchisee pages.

BD Provisions now has over 20,000 followers across our various pages on Facebook and Instagram!

New Product Devlopment

At BD Provisions, we designed a line of gifting and product packaging that combines elegance with sustainability. The packaging features a selection of baskets, boxes, buckets, and gift totes, each crafted from eco-friendly materials that convey a high-end image yet reflect the brand's commitment to the environment. By choosing sustainable yet high-quality materials, such as recycled paper, biodegradable fibers, and reusable containers, we were able to maintain an upscale look and feel, ensuring that each package not only delights customers but also aligns with our values of conscious consumerism.
